A Day Hike

In July 2022, Silas and I took the boys to some nearby hiking trails for the day.

As you can imagine in mid-summer Memphis, heat and humidity were high. The path was also dicey at points, and the boys began to tire quickly. Then Liam, not even three yet, stumbled over a rock and fell hard. He scratched up his knees and got a face full of dirt.

Silas grabbed his hand to pull him up, reminding him, “Hold my hand, buddy. That way if you trip, you won’t fall, because I’ll lift you up with my hand.”

Immediately Psalm 37:23-24 made more sense than ever before. “The Lord directs the steps of the righteous. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”

As humans, we stumble a lot in this life. But those who are His have a Father who holds their hand. We will not fall. The Lord is our help.
